Advertisement Ideas: What You Can Learn From March Madness!!!
Each year I look forward to March as The NCAA Basketball Tournament begins. I wit for selection Sunday and then I begin to fill out my bracket and I watch with anticipation as to whether the 12 seed I picked will upset the #5 seed or will that little college that very few have heard of will make a run. This year I decided to look at March Madness from a business perspective and saw many lessons that can be learned:
1: On any given day your bracket can be busted because what you thought would happen did not happen. When this happens in business we sit back and we make adjustments so that next time our choices work out in a more positive manner.
2: The game is not over until the final buzzer sounds. How many games have you watched that have been decided on a last second shot? In business we may be having a challenging day but right before closing we beat the buzzer and come out a head because we kept shooting.
3: If you are going to win you must have a game plan and work the plan and make adjustments alone the way. In business your plans may seem very solid and reasonable and then something happens so you have to adjust.
4: Following the rules is a key ingredient to success. In basketball you are penalized for not following the rules just as you are in business. You may not like the rules but you must be in compliance.
5: If you want to be a winner in your industry you must compile a team that will help you to achieve greatness. Assess what your desire is with your business and then find the person who can best fit that skill set and help you to fulfill that desire. Sometimes you have to change your team members so that the best people are put into place to achieve success.
6: To become proficient at anything you must practice so that it becomes so routine that you can do it efficiently to the point where you don’t even have to worry about the outcome. If you are an entrepreneur and have a rough time with sales then practice your approach and analyze what worked and what needs to be improved so that yo can create the brand awareness you want to increase brand awareness and revenue.
7: Be willing to change as what you may have done yesterday may not work today. In watching several games during this year’s March Madness I witnessed a team that won from the outside having to change to go to the inside because the opposing team was shutting down the outside game. Those who made the changes improved their chances to win. Remember that our businesses are always evolving and you must be willing to adapt and change to insure for a chance at success.
8: Advertising Works!!! How many companies did some type of bracket challenge and saw increased traffic to their site and also increased traffic to their location because they were now on the top of the mind of the consumer? How many of us will remember that Enterprise is The Official Rent-A-Car of NCAA Tournament and when we need a rent-a-car we will call them?
9: Create memorable moments for your clients/customers and those you come in contact with so that remember you and speak favorable of you. Think of the games that stand out from March Madness!!!
10: Celebrate your accomplishment and record them. Create a media showcase that highlights your accomplishments so as to build credibility and edification for your business.

When the season starts a coach and his team will get together and determine what there goals are and then match the passion with purpose to achieve the goals. When the final buzzer sounds on their final game they will sit down and evaluate the outcome. For many making it the tournament will be enough, for others anything short of a championship will be disappointing. In business we must find our purpose match with our passion and set goals so we can move forward everyday in a positive direction as we create brand awareness and increase our cash flow.
Success has different meaning to different people for some it is simple doing your best for others it is winning a championship. In business many measure success by revenue and others measure it by lives touched and others use a combination. The key is to define what success means to you.
What is victory for you? Is it increasing sales? Is it having a 100% satisfaction rating?
