Today’s blog entry is inspired by The Rocky Horror Picture Show Toucha Toucha Touch Me song. As I listened to the lyrics I thought how this mimics the cycle of customer procurement and customer retention.  The customer relationship is much like that of a pursuit for someone of the opposite sex. In many cases you spend many dollars  in hopes of achieving a conquest and many times the conquest does not happen. Just like in business you spend many dollars in marketing and advertising and sometimes it doesn’t work because your expectations were not realistic or the choices you made were not synergistic with your brand. In business we may not physically touch a customer but we may touch their mind or their heart so we must look at  the best practices to achieve the desired result. When we begin to figuratively touch potential customers and existing customers we  realize how they become ambassadors of our brand and as a result create a buzz about our brand. In touching customers we must use our why we are doing what we do as part of our marketing mix. It is important tom understand that people will not buy the what but the why. In showing your why in your advertising and marketing you will generate more brand awareness and increase your cash flow.

As The  TV Show Host  of The Anything Bucket at www.wrpbitv.com I am asked all the time why would you give a free interview to someone? The answer is simple because I need content for my show and I believe in helping businesses to excel. I also give businesses a chance to purchase the clip of their appearance on the show for $175 that they can use in their marketing mix to touch potential customers or retain existing customers. I believe that when you have an opportunity to reach people and touch them with your message that you should take advantage of the opportunity.
From the moment you open your doors to the time you close it is important to remember that every touch you have with a customer/client has the possibility to make a good impression. From your advertisements to the way you answer the phone to the way you handle customer concerns each plays a major role when figuratively touching your customers. I can not tell you how many times I have not done business with a company because of the way I felt I was treated. I called a business the other day to speak to their marketing director I asked for the person and was told you have to call back they are not available. I said okay and guess what I will not be calling back and this person’s business will not get the positive publicity that I could have given ton them. Had the person answering the phone said I am sorry MRS. XYZ isn’t available at the moment would you like her voice mail or I can take a message I would have followed up and done everything in my power to give the business positive coverage across my multiple platforms.

The key is to make every encounter result in a positive touch as you never know how the person you are interacting with can be of service and value to you. I was out the other day collecting donations for The American Cancer Society Relay For Life Of West Boca Raton and sharing my donation page http://main.acsevents.org/goto/jdogg2 when a gentleman walked over to me and said thank you for what you are doing and gave me a $10 donation I asked him for his business card so I could give him a shut out across my social media platforms and on my website. He said he was retired but stated that is smart of you as you return the favor. We talked for about 5 more minutes and he wished me luck. The concept is easy make every encounter positive. Remember a no today is not a no forever and you never know who might be listening when you are out touching the community.

The best positive touch is a follow-up. Sometimes you have to do 7-8 touches to get the desired outcome. Sometimes you have to be persistent in your touches so someone will take action. Each time you make a follow up touch make it positive. So that when someone is ready to do business with you or make a charitable donation they think of you first.

One of the best ways to touch your target audience is to get involved in community events. Remember to reach out and touch someone.
