Advertisement Ideas: Watch What You Say!!!

Today’s entry was inspired by a conversation I had with a woman today (2/20/2015) who helps to market people’s business as I was seeking support for The American Cancer Society Relay For Life as I have a program where a business can donate $100 and in return have a track marker that would be seen by those participating in Relay for Life for the 12 hours of the event. She told me she only had 3 clients and they were all in Miami and not interested in growing their business. This took me aback because I know if you aren’t growing your business you are dying. She explained to me that she was content with her clients and that working was for her husband as she wants to spend tie with her kids. I admire her wanting to spend time with her kids but don’t tell people you can grow their business when you aren’t growing yours.

While on the phone today (2/20/2015) I encountered a man who told me business was slow and used many lack words in the course of our conversation. I told him when yu say business is slow the business will be slow because you create a self-fulfilling prophecy. When you use words like struggle you create more struggle. In business especially in advertising it is important to utilize the right words. When you are engaging with potential clients or existing clients be aware of the words you are using. Advertisement Ideas: Capitalizing on Current Events

By now everyone knows of the scandal that rocked The Penn State Football Program. This morning the news conference announcing the sanctions was held and it created a buzz around the nation. The NCAA slammed Penn Statefor the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse scandal Monday with an unprecedented series of penalties, including a $60 million fine and the loss of all the school’s victories from 1998-2011, knocking Joe Paterno from his spot as major college football’s winningest coach.Other sanctions include a four-year ban on postseason games that will prevent Penn State from playing for the Big Ten title, the loss of 20 scholarships per year over four years and five years’ probation. The NCAA also said that any current or incoming football players are free to immediately transfer and compete at another school.

You may be asking yourself what does this have to do with me as a business owner? The answer probably not that much unless you have ties to Penn State or sell Penn State Merchandise, however it has a lot to do with you as it gives you chance to take a stand and increase your presence in your community by doing something that promotes helping children’s charities. Imagine if you placed a note in your advertising that stated in the wake of The Penn State Sex Scandal like many business people I have been alerted to the growing problem of child abuse in our country and will be donating 10% of all my sales or bookings to The Missing and Exploited Children’s Fund. 84% of consumers surveyed in a recent brand awareness poll, when asked to name who they though of first when sneakers were mentioned stated they think of NIKE. This has led me to ask the question How Strong Is Your Brand? Now you may be thinking NIKe has a strong brand because they spend millions on advertising and marketing and I don’t have a NIKE budget. I am here to tell you that you don’t need a NIKE type budget to strenghthen your brand all need is some working knowledge of the market, who your target audience is and how they are getting their information and making buying decisions.
