Festival Of The Arts Not So Festive!!!!!!

I have always said that you never know who you may be speaking with so you may want to consider the idea to treat everyone with respect and allow them to shine their light as you never know what pull they may have in the community. I ventured out to The Coral Springs Festival Of The Arts on March 15, 2014 with the intention of collecting donations for The American Cancer Society Relay For Life and to recruit guest for my TV Show, The Anything Bucket, which airs on www.wrpbitv.com on Tuesday at 6:30 PM EDT. It is always my intention to put people in a positive light by utilizing my many platforms to be of service and value to them. I arrived at The Coral Springs Festival of The Arts and began to ask for donations things were going well many people were very receptive, a former commissioner saw me and asked me what I was doing he said great let me take you to the main stage and you can make an announcement. The entertainment chairman allowed me to make an announcement and then asked for my business card, The mayor saw me and wished me luck, many on the committee saw me and said keep up the great work, one of the vendors a local chiropractor donated $20, then the experience went from festive to melancholy as The President of The Festival Approached me and said I wasn’t allowed to collect donations as this was not allowed. I simply said okay and she continued to go on and on. I took a deep breath and said I am leaving but before I go do you want good or bad publicity. This struck a nerve and she asked am I threatening her. I simply said no but you get better results with kindness and I walked away. As I went to my care I realized that in business there will be those who get it and those who don’t.

In the president of the festival not having the ability to see the forest beyond the trees she lost out on a golden opportunity to create an advocate and an ally who writes two blogs, has over 2500 Facebook Friends, over 1600 Twitter followers, and over 5000 connections on Linked In, not to mention his own TV Show and Radio Show, plus an excellent media and public relations specialist. This made me think how many opportunities are you missing in your business by not being open to receive. Everyone that you come in contact has the potential to help you in some form and until you peel back the onion and open your eyes you never know what they can do for you. In business capital is key to the existence of the business. The biggest challenge I hear from those I work with is how cash strapped they are. They ask me JDOGG how can I increase my cash flow and build a solid revenue stream? My answer is find ways to be a giver. Many times they look at me with the perplexed look on their face as to say what do you mean I need money and giving things away isn’t going to help me. It is at that moment where I explain that lack mentality and a scarcity belief system is what put them in the position. I explain that it is now time to shift to an abundance mind-set and become a giver. In any business the key is to find a way to be a giver while also being of service and value.

In my volunteer experience with The American Cancer Society Relay For Life I have often been told no and I have heard all of the excuses why someone would not donate $1. The reason that they were struggling personally and professionally was due to the limitless beliefs they had of being a taker. A pizza place I stopped into in Boca Raton told me flat-out if I wasn’t buying his pizza he wasn’t interested. This same owner told me a year ago how he needed money and wasn’t giving anything away. As I walked out I thought he was struggling last year and this year he continues to struggle and he probably wonders why he is not reaping the benefits of having a pizza place in a high trafficked area across from the middle school. His thoughts and his attitude are holding him back. He is an example of someone who should shift from being a taker to being a giver. In business sometimes we need help to get it up. I hope this blog entry will be like Viagra and help you to stiffen your business and beat your competition by giving you solid advertising ideas. The key to getting it up with advertising is to have something that stimulates and excites the consumers. It begins with the right advertising choices. With the right choices used to create brand awareness coupled with a strong call to action you will get it up and see an increase in your revenue. It is time to face the facts that if you have a business you will experience some type of bad press while running your business. You will encounter people for whatever who will bad mouth you and your business. If you are doing the right thing you will experience bad press either through posts on social media sites, letters to the editor, media sources whose agenda is to spread negativity, or competitors looking to tear you down as opposed to build themselves up. The question is what do you do?

One of the key components is in overcoming negative press is to be armed with the facts that build your credibility. When the press brings up something negative combat it with all that you are doing that is positive in your business. In many cases this is the scenario as you are yelling your message but the intended recipient is not listening. This happens for a number of reasons:

People look at your message as an intrusion and do not want to be disturbed. The way around this is to make your message appealing by being resonating, entertaining and relevant.

People have chosen to block out your noise as they focus on their task at hand. You are not plugged into their immediate wants and desires or what you are offering just doesn’t appeal to them. You can over come this by knowing what their likes and dislikes are and answering the question what pain does your product or service remove. Then you can create an effective marketing strategy that will help you cut through the noise to entice them to do business with you.

The audience you are attempting to reach is over saturated and over stimulated. I am always amazed by the excuses I hear after Interview someone at WRPBiTV and the station offers then the opportunity to purchase their clip for $100. The advertisement ideas and marketing person in me thinks why not? I then think do they understand that having a clip with their contact information to use across social media such as Facebook and Twitter can generate more business? Do they understand that by having a clip that they can have something in their arsenal to send out to those who have inquired about their business? I have come to the conclusion that many people in business do not understand how to effectively use their marketing dollars and thus continue to struggle in business. In the last few years the way we market and do business has changed rapidly. May businesses are still behind the times and left questioning how do I leverage my marketing? The answer is to first have a marketing program that is strategic and effective. In 2010 I approached Skyline Chili Proprietors Tony and Jenny about being part of The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Sunrise, FL. What was going to be a one night promotions turned into a once a month promotion for 7 months. Each fundraiser was put onto the special banner made for the event. When The Relay was held in 2011 the donation was close to $5,000. I promoted the fundraiser and the local Sunrise Forum had an article on The Front page about Relay For Life, which mentioned Skyline Chili’s involvement. I also made a video that was put up on you tube at www.youtube.com/jdogglederman. I also mentioned Skyline Chili on my radio show. As a result of their sponsorship and how they leveraged the marketing they increased their brand awareness and also increased their revenue.

JDOGG Uses Community Service As A Public Relations Tool

Since I was young I have always found ways to help businesses to leverage their marketing and how community involvement can be a key public relations tool. When I do an event I always seek businesses to support the effort and I have found those who truly understand the idea of leveraging their marketing will support the event. In March of 2012 I hosted The Spiritual Entrepreneurs Visionary Awards where donations were collected and given to The American Cancer Society to help fund a cancer camp for kids with cancer. I had Ken Esrig, Rev. Ernest Chu, Sarah Spiritual, Rev. Dr. Mia Merritt, and Angelika Christie as my speakers. I honored 50 community leaders for their outstanding service. Subway, Shawna’s Deserts, and others sponsored the event. This who used photos of the event in the marketing materials saw more brand recognition as their participation in the event gave them credibility. These icons and the word social media have become recognizable lexicons in the advertising world thus creating a need to come up with more effective advertisement ideas so as to create a buzz about your products or services. The question that comes up in many of my trainings is JDOGG how can I use social media effectively? I generally answer that first you must engage the audience, then you must create more content that keeps them coming back, then you build your list, then you devise a plan that engages rather than sells. Once you do this the people will begin to look for you and what products and services that you offer. As a marketing and media relations specialist I am asked many times JDOGG how is this going to create positive cash flow? The simplicity of the situation is that advertising is meant to create traffic and by creating traffic and fulfilling the desires of the consumer you will create positive cash flow. The first thing you need to do to create positive cash flow is to understand what your client/customer wants. A great example is my customer wants exposure in the market place so I create a strategy for them to get this exposure and I charge fees for the program that they choose. In promoting their business and getting results I am able to garner a fee and thus create positive cash flow. A colleague of mine Ken Esrig speaks of putting yourself in a dollar bill sandwich where you put your name on the top of a paper with 5 dollar signs on one side of your name and 5 dollar signs on the other side of your name to illustrate that money flows to you and from you. It is important to understand that everything you do in business has a value and the key is to maximize the return on your investment so that you will create positive cash flow. The mindset should be one that I will maximize my message and that I will make smart choices and be open to receive so as to create positive cash flow. It is also important to ask yourself and I coming from a position of lack or a position of abundance? In business one of the most important seeds you can plant are advertising seeds. You have many choices when it comes to advertising however being knowledgeable and proactive will be the key to planting seeds that grow and thus increases revenue and creates brand recognition that allows for monetary success. This concept was also featured in The Sun-Sentinel.

The Super Bowl is being played on 2/2/2014 you can plan special promotions that relate to the game and include these promotions in all your marketing plans. For example you are a life coach and you advertise a session based on the total points scored in the game and advertise that for the week following The Super Bowl your 30 minute session will be the total number of points scored by both teams in the Super Bowl. So if 49 points are scored you charge $49 for the 1/2 hour session. If you advertise and promote this properly you will have a high retention rate as well as an increase in new clients.
