Mr./ Mrs. Business Owner It Is Time To Wake The F UP!!!

I can not tell you how many times I wanted to yell into the phone this week “Wake The F Up”, as I encountered many business people who just don’t seem to understand that everyone calling your business is a potential customer or may know someone who can use their product or services. In one instance I called Myotis Salon and Boutique at 9:30 AM and the gentleman answered the phone I introduced my self asking if I could speak to the person that handles the marketing and community outreach and was told you selling advertising I open at 11 AM you call back then. I found this to be strange as I know from my experiences the best time to discuss advertising and marketing is when you are not open so you can devote your time and attention to the conversation and be fully engaged. Think about it had the gentleman been open to receive or polite he would not be in this blog being used as a bad example of conducting business. He could have said sir I would like to speak with you however I am involved with a another project right now please call me after 11 AM. Remember it is not what you say but how you say it. I ask you do you think I am going to recommend his services to my female colleagues who could benefit from his services.

Another time to Wake Up The F UP message goes to Ross Services. They service pools and do other  home maintenance and building. I called and spoke to a gentleman there who said he was the owner and he was not interested and would not take the call any further and hung up. I hung up the phone and thought his loss as I always mention those businesses that were nice to me and recommend their services. He didn’t realize my influence in the community nor did he care. I fully understand that as a business owner you receive many calls offering ways to help your business and it is tough to listen to all of them, however if you keep in mind that everyone that calls can be of service and value to you and your remain open to receive you may obtain some business as a result. In today’s market place when businesses are fighting to keep their doors open it is important for a business owner to do all he can to make friends and influence people. People will do business with people they know, like, and trust and it is important to treat everyone with kindness because if you don’t you might end up in someone’s blog or in a story that gets shared over and over about  your poor service and attitude. Think about this a friend comes to me for advice about doing business with Ross Services as they trust my opinion, what do you think I am  going to say? I am going to say based on my experience with them I would recommend you go elsewhere.

The point of this entry today is to remind you as a business owner or a representative of a business that every interaction should leave the person you are dealing with in a positive frame of mind when it comes to your business. 90 % of people will complain about bad service and a bad experience  and thus create a poor brand image for your business. The goal this week should be to remember that one oh crap ruins 1000 at a boys. In the advent of social media it is more important than ever  to create a positive image in the market place.
