It is funny how you can ask about the same thing in a different manner and get two separate answers. The other day people were asked about what has become known as Obamacare and many stated oh it is bad and the president had good intentions and but the implementation lacked. The when asked about The Affordable Care Act they said oh that is much better it will help more people. One person said isn’t Obamacare and The Affordable Care Act  the same thing? The answer is yes they are but the American public has become so programmed that they do not  do their due diligence and investigate things and go by what they hear on CNN and FOX News making many people iceholes.  I come across iceholes everyday that will make every excuse why their business isn’t doing well instead of asking what can I do differently to improve my business.

To avoid being an icehole you must take charge of your life both personally and professionally you must become aware of your actions and the effect they have on your business. If you are not coming up with new advertising ideas, new campaigns to create brand awareness and create a buzz so as to give people a reason to do business with you then you might just be an icehole.  If you are not being proactive and you continue to be reactive you could be leaving money on the table making you an icehole.

If you do not have a plan you just might be an icehole. If you are not taking daily action to promote your business you just might be an icehole.  It is important to make proper choices as to where to promote, where to advertise, where to share who you are and what you do and why you do it. Remember people are not buying the what you do they are buying the why you do it. If you are not taking action and moving forward toward your goals you just might be an icehole.

If you are not seeking opportunities to promote your business you may be an icehole. The other night I knew there was a food truck round-up in the neighborhood so I went out with my business cards and dressed in  my Relay For Life Gear with a collection canister. In a matter of 2 hours I collected $45 and obtained 8 leads for possible interviews for my TV Show, The Anything Bucket, which airs on www.wrpbitv.com on Tuesday at 6:30PM EDT. The key is by looking for opportunities and implementing a  plan of action I avoided being an icehole.  There are so many ways for a business owner to be proactive but they are so busy making excuses that they miss out making them an icehole.

Look at how you are being perceived. Are you looked at as someone to do business with or an icehole? Are you being seen as authentic and genuine or a faker who doesn’t deliver on their promises?  The biggest key in avoiding being an icehole is to be sincere and deliver what you promise. Also look at how you are conducting business because you may be representing your company great but your staff may be creating issues making you look like an icehole.  Look at procedures you have in place that might be making you look like an icehole. The other day I went to a doctor for a physical and I was set to pay for my co pay with my debit card and was told they do not do credit cards or debit cards and to mail a check. I didn’t send the check and was planning to send the $40 and received a bill for $90. It turns out they said they take my insurance when my plan was not one they took. When I pointed out the fact that misinformation was given and I would send $40 the receptionist got all defensive and told me if I had listened that is what she was trying to tell me.Lesson don’t use a doctor that doesn’t take credit or debit cards.

From your business card to your voice mail and everything in between you want to avoid being an icehole. Everything you do is a reflection on your business so be careful and do not be an icehole. You never know who is watching and how they can be of service and value to you or how you can be of service and value to them. When you find yourself being an icehole step back, detach yourself, and remember every action you take will affect your business.
