Advertisement Ideas: From Spectator to Sportscaster

When I was a young boy and attended my first sporting event I always said I can do that as the announcer made his announcements and each time I turned on the radio or TV to hear or watch a sporting event I would mimic the announcers

and I knew that my true passion was being an announcer or broadcaster. I never really pursued this as I was told I didn’t have what ot takes or your not as good as so and so or you don’t have the right contacts to get into this field. All the naysayers managed to convince me to keep this as a hobby then one day I said the heck with the naysayers I am going to go for it and I am going to become the best voice that I can be so I began to volunteer to do games and events for free. In 1991 I was involved with The Jaycees and they were doing a Beautiful Baby Contest to benefit The St. Jude Children’s Hospital and I said I’ll be the host and they said okay and that is basically how my becoming and emcee, voice-over person, and public address announcer unfolded as I took the stage and did the welcome and when it was over the chapter presented me a plaque proclaiming me as The Best Emcee. I would continue to donate my time when one day I realized I could get paid for my voice. This happened as I was retrieving my voice message and Advanced Cable Communications left a message say they were going to sponsor children for The Jaycees Holiday Shopping Spree for Needy Children and have I ever done voice-overs. I called back to thank them and they had me come into do the first series of voice-overs for the real estate showcase and I soon was doing voice-overs each week. They decided not to use me after deciding to use only in-house talent so I put this on the back burner and then one day while I was interviewing Coach Lamont Carr for a newspaper I worked for at the time, The Happy Herald I picked up a microphone and announced a quick welcome he asked what I was doing the rest of the afternoon and to stay and announce the scrimmage. The scrimmage ended and he asked me to come do Opening Night for The Palm Beach Imperials of The American Basketball Association. I was doing the games for free when the owner’s wife asked me what do we owe you and I explained I was doing the games for free, the owner stated he would have something for me the next game and it turned out to be a check. Now I was a Paid Professional Announcer. This led me to being hired by The Palm Beach Punishers of The Independent Women’s Football League, which led me to being hired by The Miami Fury of The IWFL. This year marked my 5th season with The Fury. I have done basketball for Lynn University and Broward College, many little league football games, and The Miami Caliente of The Lingerie Football League Games and Lingerie Bowl 7. I have now emceed many events such as The South Florida Parenting Holiday Show, The City of Coral Springs Worldfest, The American Cancer Society Relay for Life, The Friends of Military Children Gala, The Transform Youth Life Summit, and The Transform Your Wealth Summit. This all became a reality when I made the conscience decision to forget the naysayers and get connected with source and continue to pursue opportunities.
In September 2010 I launched a radio show that airs on Monday from 7-8 PM at www.blogtalkradio.com/thirdeyeradio1. I focus on empowerment and inspiration. Each week I have the opportunity to deliver a positive message. In May 2011 I was the play by play voice on www.mrsn.us for The Palm Beach Punishers VS. The Miami Fury Game. I was also the voice of Leo The Fox(dog) in a short film Winners made for the Downtown Boca Raton Film Festival. Now everywhere I go I make it a point to let people know who I am and what I do and I hand them my card and this has led to many opportunities and built some great relationships.
A few years ago I was hired to do The Blitz Bowl and this year the organizer of that event has invited me to announce The Conch Bowl, The first ever Youth Football Game to be played in The Bahamas. You can visit www.bahamasamericanfootball.com to support this effort. This never would have happened if I had listened to all the naysayers.
As the result of being of service and coming from a position of gratitude I was invited to emcee The Friends of Military Children Gala. I was able to meet and spend time with Darius Butler of The N.E. Patriots. You can support their effort by visiting www.friendsofmilitarychildren.com.
As a result of believing myself and honing my skills I have been able to start the planning process for The Spiritual Entrepreneurs Visionary Awards scheduled for March 3, 2012 in Sunrise, FL. I will be the emcee as we honor 100 people who are making a positive difference in the community. You can find more information at our facebook group, Spiritual Entrepreneurs.
I have now gone from the position of Spectator to Sportscaster and now have a great foundation for a story to submit to the media. I share this with you to encourage you to write your story and promote yourself so that you can become more successful in your personal and professional life.
